The home grown auto major Mahindra &Mahindra is all set to pull the curtains off its exquisitely designed World SUV, codenamed as Mahindra W201 SUV in India. The auto manufacturer has christened it as “Mahindra XUV 500”, pronounced as “XUV 5 double Oh”, that is hoped to hit the roads by the end of this year. The M&M foresees to launch their much awaited SUV, with Mahindra XUV 500 price tagged at Rs 13 lakhs for its base variant. The company’s idea is to position the XUV 500, a notch higher than the Mahindra Scorpio in the Indian car market.

The Mahindra XUV500 SUV is the company’s first ever attempt made towards building their monocoque vehicle that is powered by a transverse engine. A monocoque vehicle is an integration of the body of the vehicle and the chassis to form a single piece. Due to the body of the car in a piece, it enables well-proportionated exteriors. From the snapshots that are available on the net, the Mahindra XUV 500 is a very attractive SUV with pulled back headlamps and curved Mahindra grille. As per the pictures, the XUV 500 is the best looking SUV offered by Mahindra so far.

As for XUV500 specifications, the engine under the hoods is a 2.2 L mHawk engine that is developed specifically for the Mahindra’s XUV500. A remarkable new cable-operated gearbox is installed in the SUV that is available in both five-speed and six-speed options. The new gearbox unit is developed with the inputs taken from Ricardo. With the maximum power output of 140 Bhp and a peak torque of 32.6 kgm, the company intends to further increase the power output to 170 Bhp. Few of the attractions that are likely to take place in the SUV are traction control, ESP and hill descent control as well. The SUV is likely to be introduced as both the two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options in both India and South Africa initially. The company however, envisages introducing the SUV in other car markets as well.
