Mahindra Reva brood over electric models of M&M's existing portfolio

Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Pvt Ltd. (MREVPL), part of Indian auto maker Mahindra & Mahindra declared recently that, the final take on the developing the plug-in versions of its exciting automobiles in India will be taken in the last quarter of this fiscal year.

R Chandramouli, the chief operating executive of the company, stated that the company in alliance with M&M and is looking at the options such as by being the supplier base for Mahindra. He further said that, the company is deciding on which vehicles the plug-ins can be attached. It is anticipated that, the it will be stamped by the end of this financial year.

At present, only the four wheelers of M&M will be fostering on the plug-in models and not the two wheelers, in the recent times. Mahindra had entered in the two wheeler segment sometime back and is drawing considerable volume in this segment.

As per the plans of Mahindra Reva, the electric car Reva-i, will be rolling out in the auto market from certain selected dealerships in India. Currently, Reva-i ,the electric car is sold in almost 6 cities of India which also includes Pune, now. The electric car has not yet featured in the Mumbai due to its poor infrastructure such as charging of the car battery.

The company is recently manufacturing a novel four seater plug-in vehicle which will be introduced by 2012. Also the company will start a new production facility in Bangalore which will be affixed with a production capacity of 30,000 cars. However, the company currently manufactures only 1,200 to 1,500 electric cars yearly.

Mahindra & Mahindra India owns 55 per cent stake in MREVPL and Reva Electrical, Maini family. The supporters owns 31 per cent of the company.

Mahindra wishes to expand quickly and is setting its footprint in the global auto market. The company just like its rivals Tata Motors to make it big in the global auto sector, by next year in March, will take over the South Korean SUV makers Ssangyong Motors. Mahindra will support the South Korean auto company in re-establishing itself in the market and Ssangyong will help in giving the latest technology to the Indian car brand.

Currently Mahindra in India rules the SUV segment in India with Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Xylo, Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Scorpio W.
