Mahindra Scorpio Special Edition

Indian automaker Mahindra has been testing a limited edition of its Scorpio SUV and spyshots of the same have surfaced online. The test mule was heavily camouflaged, but one could spot the vinyl, which was exposed on the panels with peeling camo. This edition of Scorpio also features black alloy wheels, which encase contrasting red brake callipers. All of these aesthetic updates aim at bestowing the car with a much more sporty appeal.

If you are one of those many inquisitive readers out there, who is wondering- “Why is Mahindra testing an in-production car, which now only incorporates changes like sporty graphics and black painted alloys?” Then let me help you out. You see, the automaker has not released any official statements explaining whether this car will be released in Indian market or is it an export-exclusive prototype. However, there are reports which speculate that this special edition Scorpio will soon hit Mahindra showrooms near you.

The car is expected to be launched in the coming months and will be placed above the current variant range of the SUV, but there has been no official statement made by the automaker, revealing the trims on which this special edition will be offered. If this car does make its way to the Indian market, then expect the SUV to remain mechanically unaltered. The pricing of the outgoing models of Scorpio starts from Rs. 8.6 lac and goes all the way up to Rs. 14.6 lac. Depending on the variants for which this special edition will be offered (if it is offered at all), the pricing of this car will feature a marginal premium over the standard trim. There is also a possibility that Mahindra will offer this car with additional features inside the cabin or by standardizing few of the optional extras.

Powering the outgoing model of Scorpio is a 2.5-litre m2DICR, common rail turbocharged diesel engine, which produces 75PS of power output and 200Nm of peak torque on the lower trim levels of Scorpio, whereas the higher-end models feature a 2.2-litre, variable geometry turbocharged, common rail diesel mill, which is capable of producing 120PS of power output and 280Nm of peak torque. This helps the car rival the likes of Tata Safari Storme and Force One SUVs.
