It is essentially a facelifted TUV300 with a BS6-compliant diesel engine and possibly more features

  • Mahindra temporarily discontinued the TUV300 around April 2020

  • In its second major facelift, the TUV300 will be called the Bolero Neo.

  • It gets many skin-deep upgrades but retains the TUV300’s boxy silhouette.

  • Will be powered by the same 1.5-litre diesel engine rated at 100PS and 240Nm.

  • Expect it to retail between Rs 8.5 lakh and Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra has teased the upcoming Bolero Neo, revealing the SUV in bits and parts. The Neo is, in essence, the facelifted TUV300, which was temporarily taken off the shelves last year.

It is expected to be launched towards the end of this month.

Let us compare the Bolero Neo to the pre-facelift TUV300; the former gets new headlamps, an LED DRL strip, reworked bumpers, a new six-slat chrome grille, fog lights, squared wheel arches, and side fender-mounted turn indicators. While the overall silhouette remains essentially unchanged, the Neo looks like an oven-fresh offering, thanks to the many cosmetic tweaks it gets.

The SUV has been given a coat of updates on the inside as well. New styling elements and features include a beige upholstery, an analogue instrument cluster (borrowed from the Thar), and a second-row armrest. It could also get automatic AC, a new touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and steering-mounted audio controls.

Under the hood, the Mahindra Bolero Neo will be powered by the same 100PS/240Nm 1.5-litre diesel engine as the TUV300. The motor is BS6-compliant, of course, and it will get a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. An optional AMT could be introduced as well.

The Bolero Neo will be positioned below the XUV300 and could be priced from Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be a more rugged alternative to the Maruti Vitara BrezzaToyota Urban CruiserHyundai VenueKia SonetTata NexonNissan Magnite, and the upcoming Renault Kiger.
