Mahindra will launch the facelifted Thar next week on 22nd, this will be most comprehensive update Thar will receive since it debuted back in December, 2010. The off-roader is getting subtle changes to its exteriors while it will receive new dashboard which looks heavily inspired from the Jeep Wrangler!

Speaking of the changes, Thar will reportedly get new plastic-metal bumpers while looking at the spy shots the rear canopy is now slightly tilted. Moreover, the dash is totally new and features dual tone shade, thus improving the cabin aesthetics drastically.

As mentioned above, the cabin seems to have taken design cues from Jeep Wrangler - placing of AC louvers, air conditioning controls and central console design reminds you of the same. The three-pot instrumentation cluster is new and looks premium with chrome detailing. Then there are bits from the current Bolero - gearbox lever, steering wheel and AC knobs.

Mechanically, the SUV is expected to remain unaltered, 2015 Thar will carry forward the current engine options. The outgoing Thar offers two diesel motors - 2.5-liter CRDe and 2.6-liter DI. The less powerful 2523 cc DI engine produces 63 bhp and 182.5 Nm of max torque @ 1500 - 1800 rpm. The range-topping diesel 2.5-liter CRDe musters a healthy 105 bhp at 3800 rpm and 247 Nm of peak torque at 1800-2000 rpm. It will be mated to a 5-Speed manual gearbox offering 2WD (rear-wheel-drive) and the 4WD [Borg-warner (Manual Shift) with low reduction gear].
