Mahindra has revealed the XUV400 EV in India as its first mass-market electric SUV. The EV’s styling and most of the specifications have been revealed, but its asking price will be announced in January 2023, likely at the Auto Expo.
The test drives for the XUV400 EV will commence in December 2022, but only in 16 cities initially, likely to be Tier-I and II cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune.
The official bookings will also commence from January 2023, perhaps shortly before the price announcement, while deliveries will begin by the end of the same month. However, Mahindra will give interested customers the opportunity to experience the electric SUV as part of the ‘XUV400 Fun Fest’ to be held from November.

The Mahindra XUV400 EV has a 39.4 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of up to 456 kilometres. The battery can be charged from nil to 80 per cent in 50 minutes with a 50kW DC fast charger. Its electric motor is rated at 150PS and 310Nm, more than its direct rival and can sprint from standstill to 100kmph in 8.3 seconds.
The XUV400 features a sunroof, over 60 connected car features and dual zone AC. Its safety kit consists of six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), cornering brake control, ISOFIX child seat anchorages and multiple active safety features as well.
The XUV400 EV is expected to be priced from Rs 17 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). It rivals the Tata Nexon EV Prime and Max, while it will also be an affordable alternative to the Hyundai Kona Electric.
