Still, the top-spec Hyundai Alcazar 6-seater undercuts the entry-level 6-seater options from both rivals listed here. It’s more affordable than the XUV700 petrol variants by over a lakh while the top-spec of the 6-seater Mahindra SUV is pricier by over Rs 5 lakh

The MG Hector Plus 6-seater manual option starts Rs 1.1 lakh lower than the petrol manual variant of the Mahindra XUV700 6-seater. Meanwhile, the top-spec Hector Plus 6-seater petrol-auto is more affordable than the XUV700 6-seater with the same powertrain by at least Rs 46,000.

With a diesel engine too, the Hyundai Alcazar is the most affordable 6-seater SUV here, which is Rs 1.86 lakh less than the starting price of the XUV700’s 6-seater diesel variants. It undercuts the 6-seater diesel options of the Hector Plus and Safari by Rs 92,000 and Rs 5.41 lakh respectively.
-
Since Tata only offers the 6-seater configuration of the Safari with its top-spec Accomplished Plus variant, it carries the highest starting price of Rs 25.59 lakh, which is Rs 3.55 lakh more than the starting price of the XUV700 6-seater diesel.
-
The Mahindra XUV700 is the most powerful diesel option here, which comes with a 2.2-litre diesel engine (185 PS / up to 450 Nm).
-
The Tata Safari uses a 2-litre diesel engine which makes 170 PS and 350 Nm, and the MG Hector Plus offers the same engine, but unlike the Safari, it’s limited to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Safari can also be had with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
-
The Hyundai Alcazar on the other hand comes with the least powerful 1.5-litre diesel engine here which makes 116 PS and 250 Nm.
-
All the aforementioned diesel engines come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, and the XUV700, Safari and Alcazar also offer the choice of a 6-speed automatic.
-
The Tata Safari being the most expensive option gets a comprehensive list of premium features, like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, 6-way power driver’s seat with memory and welcome function a 4-way powered co-driver’s seat with electric boss mode, ventilated front and rear seats, and gesture-enabled powered tailgate. It also has the easiest access to the third-row in the 6-seater configuration.
-
All four SUVs mentioned in this comparison also get the panoramic sunroof.
-
Just like the XUV700 and Hector Plus, the Safari’s safety kit also includes advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). However, the Safari’s ADAS kit currently misses out on lane keep assist feature, which will be introduced later via an update.
-
While the MG Hector Plus does offer ADAS in its top-spec petrol-automatic guise, that variant and its safety features are not available with the diesel-engine.
-
The top variants of the Tata Safari also get the choice of a Dark edition for a premium, featuring the Oberon Black exterior paint option, black alloy wheels, and an all black interior as well.
-
Mahindra also introduced the new Napoli black exterior paint option with the XUV700 with MY 24 update, which gets blacked out front grille and alloy wheels. However, Mahindra doesn’t charge extra for this paint option.
-
MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar also come with black exterior paint options (but no blacked out wheels or all-black interior in the 6-seater layout).

Final Takeaway
Among the four SUVs, the Hyundai Alcazar emerges as the most affordable option for those seeking a 6-seater with all necessary features. However, if aesthetics, cabin size, and performance are among your top priorities, the XUV700 may be preferable despite the added cost. As for the MG Hector Plus, it presents a tough challenge to the petrol variants of the XUV700 with its impressive list of features; however, it falls short in the diesel category as it lacks the option of a diesel automatic transmission.
On the other hand, the diesel-only Tata Safari stands as the most expensive 6-seater SUV in this comparison. It does offer more features and a more premium appearance compared to the others in this comparison, for the premium and perhaps has a shorter waiting period than the XUV700.
