Maruti creating landmark in car sales

Recent updates in Indian auto market states that Indian car giant Maruti Suzuki sold record 104, 073 cars in May 2011 including 10,554 units of export. As per reports, owing to increase in demand of small compact cars along with diesel variant car models, Maruti India landed up with huge sales figure in the month of May, 2011. An official report suggests that Maruti Suzuki released a total of 61048 A2 segment cars from their showrooms across India which includes Maruti Alto, Maruti Wagon-R, Maruti Zen, Maruti Swift, Maruti Ritz and Maruti A-Star.

Further due to sudden increase in the price of petrol in India, Maruti India sold 13514 A3 segment cars which comprises of Maruti SX4 and Maruti Dzire in May, 2011. Company gained 24.2 percent of increase in sales figures compared to sales number of May, 2010. The main reason behind increase in sales of A3 segment cars is that both the cars are available in Diesel variants.

Reports also suggest that another segment which witnesses good increase in sales percentage is C segment which includes Maruti Omni and Maruti Eeco.  This year Maruti’s C segment car sales saw increment of 20 percent, i.e. from 12953 units in May 2010 to 15545 units in May 2011. In terms of MUVs which include Gypsy and Grand Vitara, company sold 1100 units in May, 2011 in comparison with 968 units in May 2010.

Additionally, if complete sales report of Maruti Suzuki passenger cars is taken into account, Maruti Suzuki sold total of 76874 units in May, 2011 in comparison with 76120 units which were sold in May, 2011. With new addition of Maruti Kizashi in the fleet, Maruti India is hoping to increase the sales figures from 50 units in May to 85 units during the financial year 2011. Further with increasing demand of small segment cars in India, Maruti Suzuki India is expected to sell 1, 50,779 passenger cars in India in FY 2011-12.
