Modified On Jun 27, 2012 11:38 AM By Vikas

Hike in petrol prices, economic slowdown and various other direct or indirect reasons have attracted buyers to go towards diesel vehicles that has directly affected the sales of petrol cars in India. A sizeable decline in car sales has compelled all the major auto companies to offer huge discounts on their petrol cars. Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) claimed an overall 14 percent fall in the FY 2012 as compared to the last year.

Maruti Suzuki Alto has witnessed a fall of 18 percent if compared with the last year's sales, while the overall sales have dropped to 5.94 per cent to 72,309 units in the month of May. India's largest passenger car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki is offering hefty concessions of up to Rs 50,000 on its top selling models like the Alto and the WagonR. The other car makers including Hyundai, Tata Motors and Nissan too have come up with the lucrative offers to attract more sales. Hyundai India has come up with a scheme called “petrol price lock assurance”, under which discounts of up to Rs 52,000 have been offered on the i10 and the Santro. On the other hand Tata Motors too has offered a huge discount on the Indica Vista and the Nano of up to Rs 60,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively. Nissan, the Japanese auto giant too has brought a low EMI scheme for the Micra, under which one has to just pay Rs 3,999 as monthly installment.
