The Maruti Jimny finally goes on sale in India. Prices start from Rs 12.74 lakh (ex-showroom) and the bookings for the Maruti Jimny are already underway, for a token amount of Rs 25,000. The carmaker has also confirmed that the deliveries commence today, i.e, from the date of launch.

The Maruti Jimny is sold in two variants: Alpha and Zeta and is available in a five-door format. It is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is rated at 105PS and 134Nm. The engine is teamed up with the choice of a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter automatic. It claims to offer an efficiency of up to 16.94kmpl.

The Jimny is a true-blue off-roader as it gets 4X4 as standard with a low-range gearbox and brake-limited slip differential. It sits on a ladder frame chassis which also helps in making it capable of tackling different types of terrain.
In terms of features, Maruti offers the Jimny with a decent feature list. It gets LED headlamps with a washer, a 9-inch touchscreen system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, push-button start-stop, cruise control, and automatic AC. Safety features include six airbags, ESP, hill start assist, hill descent control, and a rear camera.

Its prime rival, the Mahindra Thar, is offered with petrol and diesel engines and also gets the choice of a convertible soft top roof. The other alternative is the Force Gurkha, which solely gets a diesel-manual combination. However, for this price range, buyers can also think of Jimny as a more rugged alternative to the subcompact SUVs.
