Both are sub-4 metre SUVs but for completely different driving purposes

    Maruti Jimny Vs Brezza

Maruti Jimny recently went on sale in India as a rival to the Mahindra Thar. While the Jimny is a true-blue off-roader, it’s also seen as a more rugged alternative to the usual subcompact SUVs. In that segment, Maruti already has the Brezza, which is one of the best-selling SUVs.

So, if you’re unsure about choosing between the Maruti Jimny and Brezza as your next subcompact SUV, here are the 5 key differences between them:

    Price

    Jimny

    Brezza

    -

LXI MT - Rs 8.29 lakh

    -

VXI MT - Rs 9.64 lakh

    -

ZXI MT - Rs 11.04 lakh

    -

VXI AT - Rs 11.14 lakh

    -

    ZXI+ MT - Rs 12.48 lakh

Zeta MT - Rs 12.74 lakh

ZXI AT - Rs 12.54 lakh

Alpha MT - Rs 13.69 lakh

    -

Zeta AT - Rs 13.94 lakh

    ZXI+ AT - Rs 13.98 lakh

Alpha AT - Rs 14.89 lakh

    -

The Brezza’s starting price is significantly lower than the Jimny. Even if we discount the bare-bones base variant of the Brezza, its VXI trim is around Rs 3 lakh more affordable than the similarly equipped base variant of the 5-door Jimny. The Zeta and Alpha are the two higher-end variants in Nexa’s nomenclature. So technically, they are at par with the ZXI and ZXI+ trims of the Brezza.

The prices of the top-end variants of both the SUVs are somewhat similar. The top-end Alpha AT variant, however, is close to a lakh costlier than the Brezza ZXI+ AT.

    Up to 20.15kmpl

While both SUVs get a 1.5-litre petrol engine, the Jimny sticking with the older version that was offered on the pre-facelift Brezza, the biggest difference between the two is their drivetrains. The Jimny is an off-roader and gets a 4x4 setup as standard, and the city-oriented Brezza uses the conventional front-wheel-drive setup. This highlights the different purposes that each of these Maruti Suzuki SUVs were built for.

    Maruti Jimny Off-roading

Also, the Jimny uses Maruti’s dated 4-speed torque converter automatic, while the Brezza goes with a new 6-speed unit. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Brezza leads the two by a difference of over 3kmpl.

    Practicality

Brezza is one of the most practical SUVs in its space, offering several storage spaces in the centre console and bottle holders on each door. The Jimny has its drawbacks when it comes to practicality, as it doesn’t have usable spaces inside the cabin. In the centre console, the storage space is very small and unable to fit smart phones. The only practical storage spaces are the two cup holders in the centre and a small open space on the dashboard. The Jimny even misses out on bottle holders on the door pockets and rear AC vents.

    Key Takeaways

    Maruti Jimny

The Maruti Jimny is more suited for buyers who often want to take their SUV on off-road adventures but still be able to use it somewhat as a family car, thanks to the extended 5-door layout that allows easy access to the rear seats and a boot. Meanwhile, the Brezza is a family SUV from the get go, offering more conveniences and coming with the ability to seat three people at the back more comfortably.
