The effect of worker's strike in Maruti India unit at Gurgaon-Manesar has finally spread to neighboring automobile companies as well. The automobile company worker unions in Manesar region will be on token strike for two-hours on Tuesday in support of the on-strike employees of India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki.According to sources, around 50,000 workers of adjoining companies will go on a two-hour tool-down strike on tomorrow. The reason behind this move is said to be the deadlock amongst talks concerning reinstating of sacked employees of Maruti Suzuki.

On Sunday, a three-party meeting of Maruti India officials, agitating workers and the state government officials took place to resolve the issues. However, for showing the solidarity to Maruti Suzuki's on-strike employees, the worker unions from other major automobile companies in the region like Hero Honda's Daruhera plant, HMSI, Rico Auto, Endurance Auto and Satyam Auto will conduct a two-hour tool-down strike. It is worth mentioning that Gurgaon-Manesar auto region manufactures about 50% of the cars and two-wheelers in the country.

Senior officials of Haryana labor department said that major hurdle in resolving the issues is the demand of on-strike workers to recall all 11 terminated employees, on which Maruti India's management is not in agreement. However, in an attempt to resolve the issue, Maruti India said that company will allow the formation of new union according to the demands of workers, but declined to make statement on the status of sacked employees.

Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki Employees Union general secretary Shiv Kumar said that ongoing strike will be called off, if company reinstates the 11 sacked employees. According to reports, Maruti Suzuki has so far suffered a loss of around Rs 400 crore, with over 8,000 units less produced. However, The Maruti Suzuki Manesar unit was closed on 4th June, Sunday after which the strike received good support from other workers' unions in the area.
