Country's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India's first MPV, the Ertiga is doing pretty good in terms of sales, around 6,000 units of the Ertiga are being sold every month. The Ertiga today is the top selling MPV/MUV in India, however it has been facing a close competition from the newly launched Compact utility vehicles like Renault Duster and Mahindra Quanto; so to take the competitive edge over the rivals, MSI is planning to launch a CNG version of the Ertiga within 2-3 months, reports Autocar India.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga that is sold in petrol and diesel engine options currently, now aims to sell around 1000-1500 units of the Ertiga CNG every month. None of its rivals including Quanto, Mahindra and Xylo have the CNG variant as of now, so the Ertiga will be the first MPV to have CNG version in India.
MSI is also working on an AT version of the car for Indonesia, so we can expect the similar model in India as well. And if Ertiga comes in an AT version, it will also become the first MPV to power an automatic gearbox, yet another trait to take the competitive edge over others.
And adding an automatic transmission doesn't seem a tough task for MSI as it already offers the four-speed AT in Dzire, SX4 and A-Star in India. Stay tuned to CarDekho for all the latest updates on the same. Cheers!
