Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has marked a remarkable achievement with 10 lakh automatic vehicles sold in India. As the leading name in the automotive industry, Maruti Suzuki has played a pivotal role in making two-pedal automatic car technology accessible across the country. Currently, the company offers four distinct automatic transmission systems, catering to the various needs of its wide scope of customers.
Innovative Technology And Customer Insights
In 2014, the company introduced the Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology – more commonly known as AMT (automated manual transmission) – which gained rapid acceptance among customers for its ease and affordability. Presently, 65 percent of the automatic vehicles sold by Maruti, from the Alto to the Fronx, come equipped with AGS technology. Meanwhile, 27 percent of total automatic sales are attributed to models with a torque converter Automatic Transmission (AT), with a 4-speed offered in the Jimny and Ciaz, while the Brezza, Ertiga, XL6 and Grand Vitara get a 6-speed with paddle shifters. About 8 percent of sales are from the Hybrid Electronic-Continuous Variable Transmission (e-CVT) as offered in the petrol-hybrid variants of the Grand Vitara and the Invicto MPV.
