Maruti Suzuki increases social spending

Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car manufacturer has increased its social welfare investment by more then 5 percent in various schemes during the period of 2007-09, as per an internal report.

According to a sustainability report prepared by the company, the social expenditure was jumped-up to Rs 7.67 crore in FY'09 as compare to Rs 7.3 crore in FY'08 and the company had started many social projects despite the recession period at that time.

Sustainability to us means being concerned about ensuring a win-win situation for all our stakeholders at all points in time, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Chairman R C Bhargava said while releasing the report.

The Maruti Suzuki has also brought down its material cost to 79 per cent of its total net sales in the last fiscal as compare to 90 per cent in 2001-02, as per the report. Besides this the company managed to brought down electricity consumption by 18 per cent and water usage by 57 per cent.

Four villages around the Manesar plant have been adopted to ensure well-being of people living in these villages, As part of MSI's CSR activities. Company is also working to increase employability of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes sections of the society.
