Maruti Suzuki India to enter Gujarat

Latest update in Indian Automobile Industry states that Managing Director of India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India, Shinzo Nakanishi met with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. As per official reports, Shinzo Nakanishi spoke about and concluded an agreement to establish company’s 7th unit in the state. It is worth mentioning that this establishment is Maruti Suzuki India’s first investment outside Haryana, where the company is present since its arrival in 1983.

However, Principal Secretary Maheshwar Sahu refused to comment on the details of agreement like location of site and government subsidies given to Maruti Suzuki India. Further according to relevant sources, Maruti India is considering Sanand from the three locations offered namely - Sanand, Halol and Dholera. Sources added that other than Mr. Nakanishi, Chairman of MSI along with other seniors attended the meeting. MSI spokesperson announced that company is willing to invest Rs18,000 crore with the help of vendors to produce 20 lakh units in future. he further stated that the first phase of production will be completed in five years with the investment cost of Rs 6,000 crore.

As for now Maruti Suzuki India is currently present in Haryana with two manufacturing units, one at Gurgoan and other at Manesar. If reports are believed, once the deal is matured, Maruti India will establish its 7th manufacturing unit in Gujarat. The production capacity of Manesar plant is 3.5 lakh units annually and the total annual capacity of three units in Gurgaon is 8.5 lakh units. Alongside Manesar, Maruti India is also expected to invest Rs. 2,500 crore in its K-series engine plant and establish a research and development facility at Rohtak.
