The Maruti India’s Manesar plant workers apparently continue to carry on with the strike at the factory premises unyielding to the High Court orders to evict the factory grounds. Punjab and Haryana state High Court had ordered the Manesar factory workers not to come in the vicinity of 100m from the factory. On October 9th, the company management reportedly dismissed 10 of the workers and 5 trainees, while another 10 were reported to be dismissed after that. Now, 44 workers are already in the list of suspension at the factory.

The strike at the factory has been re-initiated on October 7th for the second time in the past two months when the impasse came to an end between management and workers. However the strike revived 8 days ago.  Presently, 2000 factory workers are said to participate in the ongoing strike at the plant. The situation has gone overboard, when the Haryana Police had made multiple attempts to evict the workers from the factory premises. About 1500 police personnel are believed to enter the plant to handle the furious workers.

According to a source from the factory, 18 employees from the Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd (SPIL) had been sacked by the management. Apparently, the company has chosen to put up the list of the sacked employees against informing them individually. The SPIL in Gurgaon handles the operations in development of the engines and transmissions, which are supplied to the MSI and the Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd in Manesar.

Nevertheless, the Suzuki Powertrain India Employees Union (SPIEU) and the Maruti Suzuki Employee Union (MSEU) are not just going to watch the situation, but intend to challenge the MSI management in the Supreme Court to counter the High Court order. The workers have decided to hold their ground, despite the police attempts to forcibly evict them from the premises. The police have apparently cut the food and water supply to the workers inside the factory since 7 AM in the morning yesterday. The Maruti Suzuki India management is mulling to bring the production of Maruti cars at the plants including its best-selling hatchback Maruti Swift to halt due to the lack of component supply.
