The possible effects of Honda Amaze have already started showing on the faces of many Indian auto makers. Soon after the launch of Honda's much-anticipated compact sedan, the Amaze, India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki is now coming up with the 'Regal', a new variant of its top-selling compact sedan Dzire.
The ET reports that the limited edition 'Regal' variant will be priced at Rs. 5.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), and will only be made available in Petrol. It is also said that the car will hit the Indian shores in the next few days. The new version of Regal will come with a new serene blue colour, leather upholstery, advanced music system, rear parking sensor, body-coloured electronically adjustable ORVMs with a silver coloured front grille.
Speaking to ET, The company's person close to the developments, said that "Maruti Suzuki is very responsive to competitive market environment. We have seen it in the past... Regal variant is just another example of how nimble the company can be when it comes to reacting to competition". The new variant of Dzire is basically a fifth-year anniversary edition, and is ready to launch any moment, but the company wanted to launch this vehicle along with the launch of Amaze.
This has not been for the first time that Maruti Suzuki India has launched a new variant close to the introduction of new products from rivals. The company had launched a new variant of the Alto called 'Xplore' when Hyundai India came up with an entry level car Eon in 2011. Dzire has been the best-selling compact sedan in India, and company sold around 15,000 units on an average consistently in the last fiscal. The company sells around 1,69,571 units of Dzire a year, and its sales hit a peak of 18,000 units in March this year when most of the cars were facing slowdown in their sales. Since the introduction of Dzire in India, company sold around 5.30 lakh units, and still have a waiting period of around 4-8 weeks.
Meanwhile, Honda is gearing up to increase its production capacity to produce Amaze in bulk, as the car already recorded a booking of over 6,500 units, with the new model running into a waiting period of two months. Industry experts believe that with the Amaze, Honda aims to capture around 20-25 per cent of the overall market in the near future. Experts also said that, not just the Dzire, Honda Amaze will also eat into other brands sales like Toyota's Etios, Chevrolet Sail and Tata Manza.
