Vitara has been spotted in India and will be making its Indian public debut after two months at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo!
It has been proven that if you’re in the market with a boring looking car prepare to be dead on arrival. Creta literally slaughtered the S-Cross, the former is selling almost double units compared to the later monthly. Despite having a powerful engine, S-Cross did not appeal to many customers. However, Maruti has an answer to it and they call it Vitara, which is doing pretty well in the European market. Maruti Vitara is heading to India, while Hyundai Creta is heading to Europe. The Grand Vitara that the company currently retails gets a hefty tag of over 20 lac price bracket due to the vehicle not being locally manufactured. However, the Vitara is expected to be heavily localised to keep the prices in check with the Hyundai Creta and obviously, it will be retailed from the premium Nexa dealerships.
Vitara possesses all the goodies to fight with the Hyundai Creta right from the features to the motors, given Maruti prices it right. The engine will be Fiat’s 1.6-liter MultiJet aka DDiS320 as seen on the S-Cross - 120 PS/320 Nm 6-Speed MT. Vitara will flaunt better the segment best 320 Nm of torque which S-Cross was unable to do! Because looking at the Creta, S-Cross and Vitara; it is Vitara and the Creta that looks like an SUV and that’s what sells nowadays!
Moreover, it is expected that the company might debut its Allgrip AWD technology with the Vitara. Probably they have refrained from offering it in the S-Cross, despite its global availability, because they might want it to roll out first in the Vitara. And apart from the Duster, none of the vehicle in the segment offers AWD. Another highlight would be the 7-inch SmartPlay Infotainment system with Apple CarPlay that debuted in the Baleno.
It’s always a flamboyant affair for Maruti at the Indian Auto Expos, the automaker always flaunts one of the largest pavilions at the Expo. The units imported in the country are probably for the display at the upcoming show in February. Last time it was the Ciaz and the S-Cross grabbing attention at the pavilion. Speaking of its launch, seeing the popularity of the Creta, it is expected that Maruti will accelerate its launch as early as possible.
