Maruti Suzuki is planning to export Baleno to the European Union. In a bid to escalate its sales, the company will be targeting several markets such as Italy, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Spain. Exports are expected to commence from January 2016.
India’s largest carmaker previously announced that it will be exporting its premium hatchback to Japan. R C Bhargava (Maruti Suzuki chairman) elaborated that although the export process would be a complicated one, company would still be able to export cars from January 2016. Presently, Maruti is the only manufacturer of Baleno for Suzuki, which is Maruti’s foreign parent in Japan. This move comes at a time when the global response has not been so encouraging for the Indian automaker in terms of sales. It observed a fall in sales, prominently in regions like Africa and Latin America. “Since some export markets like Africa and Latin America are facing demand slowdown due to slump in oil and commodity prices, Europe's focus for exports will help the company maintain stability in exports,” according to an industry analyst.
Baleno has been a rising star for the Indo-Japanese company and through this the carmaker wants to play its second bid in the European market. Maruti Suzuki has been an old player in Europe and has previously exported 500 units there in 1987-88. It later ventured into non-EU market by analysing the huge potential there.
