The German luxury auto maker, Mercedes Benz is not ready to sit with folded hands when all the other car makers across the globe are working toward the expansion of their model line-up. The newest trooper to join the vast and diverse cavalry of Mercedes Benz is the production version of the Concept Style Coupe (CSC) sports sedan known as CLA which made an appearance in the beginning of this year. Before this, the two new compact models rolled out by this car-maker were the new 5-door A Class and B Class minivan.
A camouflaged testing prototype of the CLA was recently spotted at the Nurburgring track. The Mercedes Benz CLA is destined to sit below the entry level sedan C Class; however the car’s dimensions from the outside are on the same lines as the executive model of the brand. The concept version of the CSC sports sedan flaunts a length of 4637mm, a width 1891m and a height of 1398mm which means it is 46mm longer and 121mm wider than the Mercedes Benz C Class.
The CLA sits on the same modular MFA platform as the A Class which boasts a 2699mm long wheelbase. Another borrowed aspect from the A Class includes most of the four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines; the model for the North American car market will be housed with better powered variants. The flagship model of the CLA sports sedan will be the AMG one that will flaunt the driveline from the A45 AMG sports hatchback which is soon going to break covers. Recently it has been confirmed by the company that the A45 AMG will be equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that is capable of producing a peak power of 330bhp and a peak torque of over 400Nm.
The AMG version or the flagship version of the model range will be coupled with Speedshift DCT 7-speed sports transmission with dual clutch technology. The engine will support the all-wheel drive system for better overall performance and handling. The tentative timeframe for the release of the CLA 45 AMG will be around a year later than the introduction of the regular models. For the Indian car market the Mercedes Benz CLA could be just a common man’s car.
