Mercedes Benz India records sales up in 2008

Mercedes Benz India announced its sales performance for year 2008. Mercedes Benz India has sold an impressive 3625 passenger car, 240 trucks and 16 bus chassis in India between January 2008 to December 2008. The company official said that Mercedes Benz India records its passenger cars sales up in 2008 by 46% over the year 2007 and trucks sales up in 2008 by 53% over last year.

The new Mercedes Benz C-Class which was launched in January 2008 proved to be the hottest selling luxury sedan in India, powered by locally manufactured petrol and diesel engines. A total no. of 1756 Mercedes Benz C-Class cars were sold in Jan-Dec 2008 that is more than double of year 2007 C-Class sales which was 779 units. The S-Class continued its strong growth and netted record sales up in 2008 by 23% with 561 units, over 2007 that was 457.

In the segment of Completely Built Imported cars, Mercedes Benz India has recorded sales up by 20% over 2007. The most popular model in this category was the M-Class that was sold 82 units.

The Actors 4840K truck continued to find favour with mining operators, its sales up by 53% with 240 units sold over 157 units in 2007.

Dr. Wilfried Aulbur, Managing Director and CEO of Daimler India, “The first 3 quarters were very good for Mercedes Benz India and despite a lean fourth quarter, we have been able to achieve good results in year 2008. We are hoping the economy will bounce back soon in response to various measures being effected.”
