The much awaited S60 Polestar performance concept from the Swedish auto maker, Volvo has finally made its world premiere in Sweden on the sidelines of Gothenburg City Race on Saturday. The model under this concept has been developed for an unknown client by the Volvo Cars official motorsports and Polestar which is the racing and tuning partner of the brand. The concept might be extended to other customers depending upon the market response. The powertrain of the concept was earlier expected to be adopted from the XC90’s Yamaha built V8 but the final Polestar performance concept is based on the S60 T6.
The regular model is powered by the 3.0L turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine capable of churning out a peak power of 300bhp or 340PS. The engine transfers power to all the four wheels which ultimately helps the car achieve 0-100km/hr speed in just 6.1 seconds and also attain a top speed of 250km/hr. The inline-six engine has been rendered modified cylinder head and combustion chambers, modified inlet manifold and air take by Volvo along with a larger Garret 3171 turbo which resulted into enhanced power of 508bhp at 6500rpm and torque of 575Nm at 5500rpm.
The Polestar has also rendered some changes to the mechanics of the car like the addition of reinforced M66C (close ratio) manual 6-speed gear box, Haldex E-LSD in rear and Haldex Gen4XWD and the company claims that car now has 0-100km/hr acceleration time of just 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 300km/hr.
These figures are sure to sweep the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG off its feet which derives power from 6.3L V8 engine that produces a peak power of 451bhp and sprints from 0 to 100km/hr in 4.4 seconds and goes as high as 250km/hr in terms of speed. The braking system flaunts Polestar-Brembo 6 piston calipers, 380 mm ventilated discs in the front and Polestar-Volvo calipers, 302 mm ventilated discs in the rear. The car has an extended track width of 20mm in the front and 40mm in the rear.
The exteriors of the Volvo S60 Polestar performance concept model has been rendered with increased (20mm) overall dimensions including the 265/30R19 tires, new bumper on the front with a splitter, rear bumper with a diffuser, skirts on the sides and a discreet spoiler on the boot lid. The insides on the other hand, have been gratified with Alcantara on the steering wheel, seats and gear knob, the seats have increased support now and the central console has been lowered for optimized gear-lever ergonomics.
