The convertible E-Class was introduced in March 2015 for Rs 78.5 lakh
While Mercedes-Benz has just launched the new C300 and S500 cabriolets, the brand has also dropped the E400 cabriolet’s price. The model is, of course, on its way out and will make way for the new E-Class next year. Priced at Rs 76 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the E400 drop-top is a healthy Rs 2.5 lakh cheaper than when it was introduced last year.
Powering the car is a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that makes 333PS of power at 5,250-6,000rpm and 480Nm of torque at 1,600-4,000rpm. The motor comes paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters and the E400 executes the 0-100kmph run in a claimed 5.3 seconds. The topless E’s highlight, of course, is the fabric convertible roof that can be opened or closed completely in around 20 seconds, at speeds of 40kmph or below.
The feature list includes LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights and 17-inch alloy wheels. The car also features an ‘edition e’ badge on the fender. Like its convertible cousins, the C300 and S500 cabrios, the E400 drop-top also gets Mercedes’ Aircap system to keep the wind draft in check while driving with the roof down.
Backing up your weekend cruise is a COMAND seven-inch infotainment interface that features navigation, Bluetooth audio streaming and USB connectivity, supported by a 14-speaker 610W sound system by Harman Kardon.
At its price, it doesn’t exactly bridge the gap between the C300 (Rs 60 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi) and S500 (Rs 2.25 crore, ex-showroom, Delhi) cabrios, but gives buyers the option of getting one of Mercedes’ best sellers in India in a more exclusive avatar.
