Mercedes-Benz to target small cities in India

Mercedes-Benz India, the second largest luxury car maker in India, is now aiming to start its operations in the tier II and III cities, to increase its market share in the country, as per a statement given by a company's official on Monday.

While briefing to the media, Dr Wilfried G Aulbur, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mercedes-Benz India, said that the growth in India will come from across the country. There is sales growth in major metros but there has been a change as far as the tier II and III cities are concerned. Company is excited about the potential in tier II and III cities, he added.

At present, around 25 to 30 per cent of Mercedes-Benz sales in India comes from these tier II and III cities, and the company is planning aggressively to capitalize on the growth potential exists here. The company has inaugurated its new state-of-the art dealership in Goa, on Monday. Goa is an important market for the company, with an established base of over 125 Mercedes customers already in this region.

Mercedes is the first and the only luxury auto dealership in Goa- a fact that reinforces its seriousness and commitment about this market, said Dr. Aulbur, on the occasion. After inaugurating an state-of-art facility in Goa, company is now planning for Indore, Bhubaneshwar and Jaipur, added Dr. Aulbur.

Last year, the company was replaced by BMW from it long held top position in India. However, with a series of new car launches in India, this year, sales of the company is again on back on track.
