The government has recently decided to set up a new body with an amount of Rs 200 crore to help and support the companies to develop some technologies which are environment- friendly for both electric and  hybrid models. Ambuj Sharma, joint-secretary, ministry of Heavy Industries commented that there are few Indian players which making various types of electric models  but lack of infrastructure for charging these vehicles and also the high-price of the hybrid vehicles  has prevented the growth. The National Electric Mobility Mission will make an effort for the promotion of eco-friendly technologies as a an alternative to the use of petrol and diesel, the non-renewable fuels. The development of such environmental friendly technology  will definitely help in controlling the air pollution in India.

This new body of the government will help the makers of electric vehicle  to develop technology to reduce the price of batteries, which comprises a third part of the total price of the product. There will be different representatives of various ministries in the National Electric Mobility Mission. These ministries will include Environment & Forest and Science & Technology, Road, Transport & Highways for the promotion of fuel efficient vehicles with reduced-cost technology. The Electric vehicles provide  lower running cost and maintenance . But these electric vehicles have not been successful in catching the consumers fancy even after different tax benefits associated with them.

The electric two wheeler industry has an installed capacity of about ten lakh units per year but the sales per year are limited to about  a lakh units merely. Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles, which is based in Bangalore, has been able to sell just few hundred electric models  in India till now.
