The current generation CLS-Class is nearing the end of its production run. Mercedes-Benz has now revealed the Final Edition CLS-Class four-door coupe and five-door shooting brake, paving the way for the new-generation car that is expected to make its debut in 2017.
The Final Edition get heated multi-contour seats draped in black leather seat upholstery, tinted windows, an electric sunroof and multi-beam LED headlamps. Both, the exterior and interior get the AMG Line treatment, with highlights including a chrome diamond radiator grille, a more aggressive front bumper with large intakes and 19-inch black alloy wheels.
The model also gets a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel with paddle shifters finished in chrome, along with ‘Final Edition’ badging on the front fender and front floor mats. The added kit raises the price of the CLS by 8,211 Euros (approximately Rs 6.10 lakh) with sales in Europe beginning immediately. While the variant gets a 9-speed automatic transmission, the engine options haven’t been specified, though, in a rather vague declaration, Mercedes says “virtually all engine variants are available”.
The Final Edition isn’t a limited-run model and the additions aren't significant. However, it does symbolize that this generation of the car is on its way out. The new model is likely to be based on the recently revealed new-gen E-Class and while it will be offered as a coupe, the shooting brake body style may be axed. Sales of the next-generation CLS will begin in early 2018, and the car is likely to make its way to India towards the end of the same year.
For now, the CLS coupe is sold in India as a direct import and is offered with a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 204PS of power and 500Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission.
