Maruti India reported a heavy slowdown in its sales last month but Swift is the only hope on which the company can rely. The company has ramped up the production in full swing to meet the ever growing demand. But even when the the Plant B has been made operational at Manesar, only 500 Swift managed to be rolled out till Monday, a figure way behind the actual capacity of the plant (8,400 cars). The labour impasse continues owing to the tough attitude of the management which is not allowing any worker inside company's premises who has not signed the 'good conduct bond'.

This has led the dealers of No. 1 car maker to stop taking further bookings of the new Maruti Swift as the delivery of this hatchback is expected to stretch up to eight months. The delivery time can also extend for select variants. A Delhi based Maruti dealer foresees the new Swift to arrive in showroom by next April and even beyond. The demand has surpassed the supply drastically this time and the backlog of new Swift has created a huge void in delivery. Maruti officials do not deny the fact that a problem persists. Mayank Pareek, the Managing Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales) agrees that dealers must have decided to stop taking fresh requests because Maruti India has not given an anticipated delivery period to customers this time as they are facing issues at the Manesar plant over production of the new Swift.
