Disclaimer: These specifications for the new-generation Swift apply to the Japan-spec model, and it may change once the hatchback is launched in India.
-
The new-generation Suzuki Swift gets a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine which produces 8 PS less power and 5 Nm less torque than the petrol version of the India-spec Maruti Swift. Though both versions of the Swift have a 5-speed manual transmission, the Japan-spec Swift comes with a CVT automatic gearbox, while the India-spec version of the hatchback is equipped with a 5-speed AMT transmission.
-
The Grand i10 Nios on the other hand uses the same capacity 1.2-litre 4 cylinder engine but makes less power than the India-spec Maruti Swift. However, just like the India-spec Swift, the Grand i10 Nios comes with the option of either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT.

The Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios also offer the option of a CNG powertrain with their 5-speed manual transmission. The Japan-spec Suzuki Swift, on the other hand, does not come with the option of CNG, though its new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine does have an optional 12V mild-hybrid setup.
-
Furthermore, the Swift in Japan also gets the choice of a strong-hybrid setup with the CVT for peak fuel efficiency. However, it is extremely unlikely to make its way to India.
-
Unlike the two hatchbacks currently sold in India, the Japan-spec Suzuki Swift also offers the optional all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain, though it, again, will not be offered in India.
-
In terms of the fuel efficiency, the new-gen Swift is more fuel efficient than its soon-to-be-replaced India-spec counterpart. This difference is mainly because the new Swift is using a 3-cylinder engine and also has a mild hybrid setup.
