Nissan India has finally launched the much awaited MPV Evalia today here in Delhi in four variants XE, XE Plus, XL and XV priced at Rs 8.49 lakh, Rs 8.92 lakh, Rs 9.49 lakh and Rs 9.99 lakh respectively. The launch of Nissan Evalia at such an attractive price range has certainly raised the competition bar in the highly competitive utility vehicle segment of India. Housing the trusted 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission, the all new Evalia churns out the maximum of 85bhp and torque of 200Nm proving it to be equally powerful as its closest competitor Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Nissan has claimed that the all new MPV returns a mileage of 19.3kmpl, which again gives a competitive advantage over most vehicles in its segment.
What more you would like about the car is the light steering, smooth gearbox that makes it fun to drive in city ride conditions, and even having 14 inches of wheels, it surprise at highways as well, it is equally impressive on high RPMs. Moreover, it has a great cabin space, large boot area, features like colour MID, key-less entry, 3rd row air-con, ABS, EBD, brake assist as standard and two airbags on all except the entry level variant. Looks-wise it's a van-like boxy car, but that has only helped the vehicle to be more spacious even after having the most compact dimensions in its segment, the height and ground clearance of the vehicle would certainly impress you.
The all new Evalia will be competing closely with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo and Chevrolet Tavera. So like always we present you the detailed comparison of the Evalia with its closest rivals on four most important factors Pricing, mileage, looks and engine performance.
Nissan Evalia Vs Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
On pricing, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has the competitive edge over most MPV/MUVs available in India including the all new Nissan Evalia. Where the Ertiga diesel starts at Rs 7.30 lakh, the Nissan Evalia's entry level variant costs Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). on mileage we would keep both on the same level, since there is not a huge difference in the mileage figures of both. Then on the looks, it is certainly the Ertiga, which is a compact SUV and looks better than all its competitors, and who can deny that compact vehicles are the need of hour today. Nissan Evaila looks a little boxy, it has a van-like appearance, so it might stick to the taxi purpose. On engine performance , both stand at a similar level, however the power-out figures prove the Ertiga to be considerably a little better than the Evalia.
So The Ertiga is certainly a better car in most departments than the all new Evalia.
Nissan Evalia VS Toyota Innova
Toyota Innova is the other closest competitor of the all new Evalia since they are equal in size and spaciousness, and who can deny that the Innova is still the hot favourite as a commercial passenger vehicle in India, so the competition between these two is quite apparent. But if we compare Evalia with the Innova, then both have their good and bad, where Evalia has an upper hand on mileage and pricing, the Innova scores more on engine performance, better engineering, and comfort. So go for Toyota Innova if you want a more plush product and Evalia for lesser price and better mileage.
Nissan Evalia VS Mahindra Xylo
Mahindra Xylo too stands very close in competition against the all new Nissan Evalia for so many reasons, and top of them is the pricing, both fall in the almost similar price range, the other reason is the spaciousness, Xylo is equally spacious as the Evalia. When it comes looks, the all new Xylo E9 is a better looker than the Evalia and holds the most powerful engine of its segment proving it to be superb at driving on both highways and city, Evalia too impresses with its drivability however. One thing in which the Evalia score more than the Xylo is the fuel economy.
Nissan Evalia Vs Chevrolet Tavera
Like we have earlier mentioned that the all new Evalia is certainly not a family car at least in looks, however it has got all what it takes to be a complete family car, so going by the looks, seating capacity and drivability, Chevrolet Tavera too might have to face the heat. And when we think of a car for the purpose of touring and travelling, Chevrolet Tavera just cannot be ignored as it's one of the trusted and economical vehicles for touring.
If we compare the Evalia with the Tavera NEO 3, then the latter scores more on seating capacity, Tavera has got the seating options from 7-seater to 10 seater, whereas the Evalia is a 7-seater. And having powered by the 2.5-litre, direct-injection turbo diesel mill, the Tavera gives more power output than the Evalia. While on the drivability, where Chevrolet Tavera has a proven history, Evalia too impressed us. Yes as we mentioned that the fuel economy is one more factor that gives Evalia a competitive advantage, Tavera returns a mileage of around 12-13kmpl, whereas the Evalia offers an impressive 19.3kmpl of mileage. As far as the looks are concerned, Nissan Evalia is certainly better than the Tavera having the much better fittings inside and out while the Tavera has got a typical touring vehicle look.
