Nissan GT-R, the car which is a dream of every true driving enthusiast and a nightmare for all other sports car manufacturers. It takes on every super car in the 0-100 km/h acceleration time and puts them to shame. In fact, soon after its launch in 2008, GT-R became a benchmark for acceleration and cornering. The car is so good that even Brian O'Conner from Fast and the Furious 6 pitched it against Dominic Toretto’s Dodge Challenger SRT in the final race. Earlier promised for 2015, this fire breathing, asphalt churning mayhem will most likely enter India this year. Nissan will also showcase GT-R at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo in order to rival Audi’s all new R8. If launched, the car will come with a price tag of around Rs. 2 Cr and besides the Audi, will also rival Porsche 911. The car can be summarised in 3 F-words namely; Fire, Form and Finesse.
Fire
Nissan’s website says “Only four master craftsmen in the world are allowed to hand-assemble the GT-R’s engine. They are known as Takumi – a Japanese term used to describe a master craftsman who has perfected his skills over years of painstaking work and dedication.” These Takumi assembled engines are 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 blocks which lash out 554 bhp at 6,400 rpm and 632 Nm of tarmac ripping torque in-between 3,200 to 5,800 rpm. This insane power is delivered via a 6-speed dual clutch transmission to an independent transaxle 4WD. Also, to help this car put all its power to the ground, a LSD (Limited Slip Differential) has been installed. The car achieves a top speed of 315.4 km/h out of which 100 km/h is achieved in just 2 seconds.
Form
“Precision Built: During assembly, "jigs" are used to hold body panels and components precisely in place. Vibration testing, laser measurements, and comprehensive inspections by experienced specialists are performed to ensure long-term functionality and to maintain the highest levels of accuracy and precision during assembly.” With a drag coefficient of just 0.26, GT-R is one of the most aerodynamically positive sports car on the planet. With a big front face highlighted by the black grille and a GT-R badge, the car has a typical Japanese body style but with a modern appeal. The black A-pillars are attached to a sloping roofline which connects neatly to the boot. The rear wing while adding to the sportiness of the car, provides the required downforce to maintain traction at high speeds. The rear is dominated by four big round tail lights which are further complimented by the four exhaust tips dipped in chrome.
Finesse
Interiors of the GT-R will drive any gizmo-freak nuts. The placement of the push button start behind the gear lever adds to the sports factor. The dashboard has a classic yet modern look with buttons for AC & music and a large display for all mechanical happenings of the car. Instrument cluster is a blend of analog and digital appealing to both the modern and old-school driver within you. The steering is mounted with numerous controls to assist the driver. The dashboard screen displays performance information. It is an intuitive system that displays performance, cornering, acceleration, and g-force data while keeping track of lap times.
