Nissan India posts record sales in January
Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) today reported its highest ever monthly sales in India with a record 5168 units sold in January. This performance is 1857 units up on January 2011, representing a significant increase of 178%. It also smashes Nissan's previous record month of November 2011 when just over 3,000 units were sold. Nissan's commitment to offer affordable, engaging and innovative models built in India, for India, is providing the momentum behind this growth with locally-manufactured models representing 98% of total sales last month.

The award-winning Nissan Sunny - launched in September and produced at Nissan's plant in Chennai - was the highest contributor in January with 3218 unit sales, including the very popular Diesel variant. The Micra hatchback, also produced at the Oragadam facility, contributed 1855 units while the Teanna premium sedan, X-Trail SUV and 370Z sports car comprised the remaining sales.

Mr Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. said: “Our sales performance in January shows that Nissan is a brand on the move in India. Breaking the 5,000 sales mark, after only 20 months of operation, is a milestone in our continuing development in what is one of Nissan's most strategically important markets. “I am especially pleased that the models driving this growth are those developed with our Indian customers in mind, and produced here in Chennai. The innovative Evalia urban-class vehicle, unveiled at the recent Delhi Auto Expo, will become the third model to be produced in Oragadam from autumn this year and will bring even more choice to our customers.”

And Nissan's growing emergence in India was underlined last month with the company's first ever appearance at the Delhi Auto Expo where the Evalia urban utility vehicle was unveiled by Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor.

Nissan also showcased its entire Indian model range alongside the iconic GT-R supercar and the revolutionary Nissan LEAF – the world's first 100% electric, zero emission, family car. But it is Nissan's ‘homegrown' products that are proving increasingly popular. Since its launch in September, 2011 Nissan Sunny has received accolades from automobile reviewers and customers alike and has won the Economic Times Zigwheels Award as the Best Entry Sedan of the year. While the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2011 India Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study has selected Micra as the top car in the premium compact segment with a score of 857 out of 1000. Micra came top in six of the 10 categories such as vehicle exterior; audio/ entertainment/ navigation; seats; HVAC; visibility and driving safety; and fuel economy in the study conducted among 8000 new car buyers in 2011 across 20 cities in India.
