The story of launching a new small car at the cost of Rs 1 lakh by Bajaj seems to come an end, so far. This news also gives impression that there would be no contender for Tata Nano in India. It is to be mentioned here that Bajaj Auto was to come up with an Ultra Low Car (ULC) in collaboration with Nissan and Renault. However, the things could not be managed by the partners and several differences occurred during the ground level itself. The partners could not come to any decision on brand name and components. Bajaj Auto wanted to brand the car by its name only. Finally, Rahul Bajaj, chairman of Bajaj Auto, told in an interview that the company will not launch any car in India as it has many other things in hand to complete on priority. The first and foremost priority is making motorcycles in India. Clearly he denied that the company will launch a new car in India. Mr Bajaj added that Bajaj Auto will focus on bikes and three-wheelers. He indicated that the company would add a fourth wheel to its three wheelers which will look like a carry van. Nevertheless, car lovers need not to be disappointed by the move as Volkswagen Polo and Maruti Eeco are going to be launched in India very soon.
