Nurburgring race circuit sold for 100m Euros - stays in German hands

The German race circuit - Nurburgring finally saw the light of the day! After a bleak year, the famed race circuit is reportedly sold to a German firm - Capricorn Development, based in Düsseldorf. Earlier, it was speculated that the iconic race circuit will fall into the hands of Americans – the HIG Capital and its investors; but a last minute bid by the Capricorn made it more temping for the sellers bidding 77 million Euros ($106.8 million), and to further invest 25 million Euros ($34.7 million) for its betterment. The final sale includes the Grand Prix circuit and the Nordschleife (North Loop, nearly 20km).

The Nurburgring, creditor committee, said, "Two very good offers and in the end decided on the offer with the highest price and good prospects for the region."

Then and Now

The track was bankrupt in July 2012, this has lead the 90-year-old North Loop (Nordschleife) to went under bidding last summer. The North Loop was built in 1927 and it stretches in excess of lush green 937 acres and hosts numerous testing and development centers of various brands. The North Loop based around the Eifel mountains and the Nurburg castle , nicknamed as "The Green Hell” is still considered to be most demanding and difficult purposely build circuit in entire world.

Indeed, it seems like the 'the Green Hell' has brighter future, the Capricorn announced that the sole point of it ownership will definitely will be the motorsport. The new owner will entice more industry to the Nurburgring and surely the track will continue to be opened for public.
