Ola Teases First Glimpse Inside Its Upcoming EV

It gets a minimalistic and sporty dashboard, supporting previous statements of it being the sportiest Indian car yet

Up-and-coming Ola Electric is looking to become the first Indian brand outside of the established car manufacturers to introduce a passenger EV. It has already teased digital renders of the exterior of its first electric car and given us the first glimpse of the interior in the midst of Diwali.

Ola Electric Car Interior: What we can see

The first thing that catches our attention is the sporty hexagonal steering wheel with jet-styled backlit controls mounted on both sides. It sits in front of a digital driver display which appears to have a minimalistic layout for the information. 

We can also spot the tablet-like central display for the infotainment system, positioned at the same height as the steering wheel. The graphic confirms that it will be running on Ola’s native OS. The cabin also features ambient lighting with an illumination strip across the dashboard just below the eye level, as well as lighting below the main dash on the driver’s side.

Ola Electric Car Exterior: A closer look

The brand also gave us the clearest look at the front profile of its upcoming EV in this latest Diwali teaser. Its design seems to have undergone some revisions to and this render seems closer to a production design. The main light signature remains the same, an LED strip spanning the width of the front end, along the bonnet line, while the LED DRL units have been simplified and reduced to just two strips each side.

The Ola EV appears to have a chunky Tesla-like front bumper, sculpted for aerodynamic efficiency, with large openings on either corner to channel air to the front brakes. The company did promise that its first creation will be a sporty one and the teaser suggests it sits on fairly wide tyres for better grip.

Ola Electric Car: Previously shared details

When Ola gave us our first look at its upcoming electric car, it announced its targets of delivering over 500km of range while being the sportiest Indian car to date with a 0-100kmph time of four seconds. Details regarding the battery pack and powertrain remain unknown for the time being.

The overall shape seems to be a crossover that has minimal drag but also offers sufficient ground clearance for Indian driving conditions. Ola founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal had also stated that it will not have any door handles that would interrupt its smooth surfaces. We had also spied a glass roof that integrates into the rear windscreen but that design details may not carry through to production without revisions. The rear was shown to be similar to the front with large smooth surfaces for the bumper and rear fenders, accented by the LED-strip tail light across the width of the car.

The first Ola EV is slated to arrive in 2024 as a premium offering that can also be exported internationally. As a fully localised offering, this sporty and long-range EV could have a starting price of around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom).
