Piaggio contemplates launching two small cars

Piaggio the leading two wheeler and three wheeler manufacturing Italian Company after making its remarkable entrance in Indian Auto Market since 1999 is now ready to mark its presence in Indian Car market by launching two of its most famous cars based on the NT-3 concept. These three seater cars will be specifically manufactured for the car markets of the countries like India, Vietnam and countries of South East Asia.

With an objective of providing the separate outgoing requirements of the customers in India, Piaggio plans to introduce the car of an upper end version in Indian market. With this Piaggio also plans to introduce one more version of this car which will be based keeping in concern the upcoming model of company’s light weighted vehicle with brand name Ape. Both these versions of the cars from Piaggio will be designed similar to the Ape and Vespa models of the company.
The launch of these two cars from Piaggio is supposed to give a tough competition to its major rival in two wheeler segment Bajaj which is planning to launch its most awaited car Bajaj-Nissan-Renault in the beginning of 2012. Recently in a statement given to Financial Express Mr. Ravi Chopra, Chairman and Managing Director, Piaggio Vehicles, stated that the demand for small cars will be large in the densely populated countries and cities. These cars will also be able to travel to places where the road infrastructure is not the best.
According to an estimate it is expected that the upcoming NT3 cars from Piaggio will be available in two segments one having the maximum speed of 80 km/ph and 300 cc engine whereas the other one with maximum speed of 60 km/ph and 200 cc engine. It will be interesting to see that after establishing itself as the pioneer in the three wheeler markets how Piaggio will perform in the car market.
