Porsche Unveils Future Plans and Celebrates Night of the Champions

Porsche has revealed its future plans for motorsports. At Porsche's headquarters in Weissach, Germany, preparations are being made for the new LMP1 sports prototype are underway for the 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours and the World Endurance Championship. Porsche has expanded the infrastructure at their R&D centre with a new workshop and office complex in order to help the LMP1 prototype programme. The prototype is expected to roll out by mid-2013.

The latest version of the 911 GT3 Cup was unveiled at the Porsche Motorsport 'Night of the Champions' event last Saturday. The new version has been dubbed as Type 991 and will run exclusively at the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercar in 2013. The new Type 991 houses a 3.8-litre, straight 6-cylinder configuration engine that generates 460bhp.

Nick Tandy received the Champions Cup from Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Porsche AG and was additionally awarded a new Porsche 911 Carrera S as a token. During the past season, the British driver scored a total of 7,510 points. Second-placed Raymond Narac was awarded 30,000 Euro, and third-placed Paolo Ruberti 25,000 Euro. The Porsche Cup is endowed with a total value of 253,000 Euro. In the competition initiated by Ferry Porsche, drivers earned points in 18 GT and prototype race series worldwide as well as at selected long distance endurance races.

Tandy raced a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR run by the experienced Manthey Racing team in the International GT Open. Sharing the cockpit with Porsche factory ‘works’ driver Marco Holzer, he won five races. And in the ADAC GT Masters, Tandy competed for the Geyer & Weinig EDV – Schütz Motorsport squad at the wheel of a 911 GT3 R. With team-mate Christian Engelhart, he scored four victories. Tandy earned further points towards the Porsche Cup competing for Flying Lizard Motorsports and TRG in the ALMS. In the British GT Championship, he manned the cockpit of a Team Motorbase 911 GT3 R at selected rounds.
