CarDekho earlier reported you about the Renault India's plans of luanching a 4x4 version of its flagship compact SUV Duster in India, and now the car has been spotted testing in Kerala by the Team-BHP guys. And what makes us believe that the spotted vehicle is four-wheel drive (4WD) version is the sticker on the back denoting the same. The 4WD option is already sold in international markets, but not in India because of the high price tag it will have.
Now when Ford is all set to launch its compact SUV Ford EcoSport, which is competing neck and neck with the Duster in several markets, it has become very necessary for Renault to bring some more variants to keep doing well. The company is developing 4wd Duster at its Chennai based plant, which is being exported to the UK market, so it's not going to be a tough task for the company to launch the similar vehicle in India. Although, it's early to claim the success of 4WD version, if it's priced well, we are sure it would attract off-roading lovers as well who are paying more to get a 4wd SUV. The 4x4 version of the car is likely to retain the same 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out the maximum power output of 108bhp and 148Nm of torque.
Renault Duster is the one vehicle that not only brought profits and good days for the French automaker in India, it also brought the culture of compact SUVs in the country, however some automakers tried that in the past, but failed. Launched back in July 2012, the Duster today is amongst the top-selling SUVs in the country, which attracted other automakers too to try their luck in the newly formed segment. Mahindra brought its first compact SUV, the Quanto in October, which too has been able to get the initial success. Next to join the league is the much awaited Ford EcoSport, which is considered to be the closest rival of the Duster, and we all are excited to see the battle taking place between these two super impressive, new era vehicles.
