Renault India says ULC project with Bajaj not on priority list

The Ultra Low Cost (ULC) car which was announced to be launched in Indian market by 2012 is now getting least priority by Renault India and the Indian two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto.Bajaj Auto who is devising a raid in the passenger car segment with this ULC has not yet shown the prototype to Franco-Japanese alliance Renault-Nissan despite getting requests several times.

Renault India Managing Director Marc Nassif informed the reporters that the company has already disclosed that they are going to launch five cars in India by 2012 and the ULC car is not among these five, they will surely get more priority than the ULC car. He also added that they cannot comment anything on the ULC project as they had not yet seen the product and their focus is totally on the five cars which will be launched in India by Renault.

Renault Executive Vice President who is also the Leader of Asia Africa Management Katsumi Nakamura said that they had asked Bajaj Auto several times to show them the prototype but they did not get to see the prototype.The company which aims to sell 90 thousand to 1 lakh cars in India by 2013 said that they will disclose about the ULC car once it is available to them for review.

As India has already been identified among the three fastest growing markets in the Automobile sector, the European car company said that affordable cars are going to play an important role in the Indian Auto market and the car models launched in the years between 2013 to 2015 will be in mass market.

Renault Executive Vice President (Sales and Marketing) Jerome Stoll said that keeping their targets in mind other cars launched by Renault will be small cars available at affordable prices.The company officials said that if the ULC car matches up to their standards and the quality of development then only they will go ahead with it.
