While both the 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre engines will be upgraded to meet the BS6 norms, their fuel efficiency figures are expected to go down by a small margin
- Following the Duster, Renault is upgrading the facelifted Kwid’s engines to meet BS6 norms.
- As per the spy shots, Renault was spotted testing the 1.0-litre Climber variant.
- The BS4 0.8-litre unit produces 54PS/72Nm while the 1.0-litre engine develops 68PS/91Nm.
- Prices are expected to go up by Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 once BS6 engines are introduced.
After facelifting two of its models, the Duster and the Kwid, Renault seems to be gearing up to launch their BS6 versions soon. We recently got our hands on a few spy shots of the BS6 Duster undergoing testing. Now, the test mule of the Kwid BS6 has been spied, which is likely to be launched early next year before the April 1, 2020, deadline.
The spied test mule is of the Climber variant that comes with a BS4-compliant 1.0-litre petrol engine. It churns out 68PS and 91Nm and is mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The ARAI-claimed efficiency figures stand at 21.7kmpl and 22.5kmpl respectively.
Renault’s entry-level hatchback is also powered by a BS4 0.8-litre petrol unit that returns 54PS and 72Nm. Unlike the 1.0-litre engine with two transmission options, this comes paired to a 5-speed manual with a fuel efficiency of 22.3kmpl. The fuel efficiency of both the engines is expected to go down by a small margin as is the case with most of the recent BS6 updates.

As far as features are concerned, we expect Renault to continue offering the same equipment as in the BS4 variants. The Kwid is offered with rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder, speed alert, and rear child lock as standard across all variants.
The prices for the BS6 Kwid are expected to shoot up by Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 over their regular counterparts. For now, the Kwid with the 0.8-litre engine is priced in the range of Rs 2.83 lakh and Rs 4.13 lakh while the 1.0-litre version sells in the Rs 4.33 lakh to Rs 4.92 lakh bracket.
(All prices ex-showroom Delhi)
