Renault RBC Officially Named ‘Triber’; Launch In Mid-2019

It’s not clear whether the Triber will be a spacious hatchback or a compact MPV, but Renault has probably dropped a hint that it would be a 5-seater

Renault has officially announced that the RBC will be called the Triber. This new model will be based on a new platform and will be positioned between the Kwid and the Lodgy in the automaker’s India lineup.

Codenamed as the RBC, the Triber has been spotted testing in camouflage multiple times over the past few months. Given its silhouette, the RBC could either be a compact MPV or a practical premium hatchback, more like the Honda Jazz. The Triber’s name reveal-image with 5 people, with a surfboard each, suggests that it could be a 5-seater and spacious enough to carry a surfboard as well. The Triber is likely to feature a spacious cabin space and modularity in seating.

Given how compact it is, it was previously expected to be based on the Kwid’s CMF-A platform, but now Renault has confirmed that the Triber will be underpinned by an all-new platform. The Triber would be positioned below the Lodgy, which competes with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

Spy shots suggest that the Triber will come with projector headlamps, DRLs, 15-inch alloys and up to four airbags for occupant safety. Test mules of the Triber were seen with a dual-tone black and beige interior, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and silver and chrome inserts around the dashboard and controls which you can see here.

Renault has not disclosed the powertrains for the Triber yet, but expect it to get a 1.2-litre petrol engine from the Renault-Nissan group’s lineup, like the Datsun GO or Nissan Micra. We can’t rule out the possibility of a turbocharged version of Renault’s 1.0-litre petrol engine either. It remains to be seen if Renault plans to offer a diesel engine with the Triber or not.

The Renault Triber is expected to launch as early as July 2019 and is likely to be priced between Rs 5 lakh and 7.5 lakh.
