When Figo was launched back in 2010, the hatch had put Ford India among mass-market player, with the car standing alongside the top-sales-gainer month-on-month. But as the lil’ Ford is getting towards the end of its product cycle, sales numbers are marginal. Having said that, backup is coming our way and is expect in the first half of next year.
The Blue Oval showcased the next-gen ‘Figo concept’ at the 2014 Expo this year in NCR, though it was a compact sedan but the hatch will share the same face. The next-gen hatch along with its twin compact sedan are expected to rock the sales chart seeing there imminent success in Brazil!
What's happening in Brazil?
Both the cars - next-gen Figo (known as KA in Brazil) and sedan KA+ went on to sale in Brazil recently and are clocking big numbers for the company. According to Ford Brazil, the hatchback recorded 9,600 sales unit in the second consecutive launch month (October) with 35 per cent growth compared to launch month’s 7,000 units. As the market sentiments in Brazil are similar to ours, one could expect that Ford India is coming with a bang!
What will contribute to success in India?
At the outset, a potent petrol counterpart that the ongoing car lacks - like the Brazil, the Indian version is expect to get a new 1.0 liter naturally aspirated TiVCT petrol engine. The motor chuck out nearly 80-85 bhp, max torque close to 105 Nm and comes mated to 5-speed manual unit. Diesel versions are also likely to get Fiesta's 1.5-liter TDCI unit, instead of the 1.4L TDCI of the ongoing one.
Moreover, the duo are also bringing the Ford’s SYNC voice controlled audio system with an approx 3.5-inch screen alongwith AppLink smartphone integration and Emergency assistance present in the Indian Fiesta and EcoSport.
