With Maybach out of the market, the competition is now between Rolls-Royce and Bentley, none second to any other. To hit the nail on the head, Rolls-Royce is rolling in the Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II and for the very first time a Rolls- Royce will be presented in India. This historic moment will be on 21st September in Mumbai. As already established, this version of the Phantom series will be the best one to drive amongst all the earlier models.

Coming to the detailed specifications of the super luxury car… Phantom Series II will retain the typical Phantom looks but yet will have a few redesigns which will help give the car a contemporary feel. The basic long bonnet with the typical Rolls Royce grille can still be seen on the new version with a new set of LED headlamps which now get a rectangular cluster. The LED headlamps will come as a standard with curve lighting functionality incorporated in it. The front bumper sees a new design as well. The grille however, is now made of a single piece of stainless steel. The rear bumper has also been remodeled slightly. The car will run on 21inch wheels which come with three options; painted, part-polished or polished.

Rolls-Royce cars have been known for their hand-made extensive customizations. Rolls Royce is known for offering nearly 44,000 external paint hues that the customers can choose from. The interiors can also have wool and leather with wood or carbon fibre etc. as per a person’s liking. The new Phantom sees some subtle changes on the inside as well. The multi information display screen LCD will not get bigger and navigations systems are now updated with the new BMW iDrive system.

The major change in the series has been the addition of the 8-speed automatic gearbox which has been sourced from the parent company, BMW. This comes mated to the regular refined and powerful 6.75-litre V12 engine which delivers a power of 435bhp. This slight change has helped boost the fuel efficiency of the car by nearly 10%. With this, the Phantom will be posing a challenge to the Bentley Mulsanne and though out of production now but also to the Maybach models.

At a price of Rs. 2.69 crore in India, Bentley Mulsanne is known for the extreme comfort, design and riding experience that it offers. The super luxury car is seen sporting the Bentley grille along with the headlamps with chrome surrounded haunches, a long bonnet and a rear overhand that has been stretched to give it more masculine look. It comes equipped with 6.8-litre TwinTurbo V8 engine which offer a power output of 512bhp. Bentley is known for their perfect combination between traditional looks with modern technology.

However, in this segment it’s the brand preference that is of the most importance. This segment comprises of loyalists who don’t switch brands but just products and both the brands mentioned here are epitome for comfort and driving experience that they offer.  Maybe it is to build on the brand value and connect with the consumers directly that Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II is making its debut in India. Who takes the bigger share of the pie in the absence of Maybach, is yet to be seen. But for the time being, till the Phantom Series II reaches India let’s just wait and hope that between the two; Bentley and Rolls-Royce, ‘may the best one wins’…
