Suzuki loses to its subsidary Maruti in production in 2009
Maruti Suzuki, India's largest carmaker has exceeded its parent company 'Suzuki Motor Corporation' in terms of overall production in 2009. As per the sources last year Maruti Suzuki has manufactured 9,66,399 units, while its Japanese parent rolled out only 9,08,302 cars. The source also informed that Maruti Suzuki has registered sales of 9,67,581 units in 2009which is higher than the Suzuki's production figure of 9,08,302 units.
Maruti has sold 8,36,893 units out of the total sales last year in the local market and the remaining units were exported. Maruti A-Star was the biggest contributor to the overseas sales and Maruti Alto has topped with 2.4lakhs sales in the domestic market followed by Maruti WagonR with 1.4 lakhs units' sales.
Currently there are 13 models in the market— M-800, Omni, Alto, WagonR, Estilo, A-star, Ritz, Swift, Dzire, the sedan SX4, Gypsy, the SUV Grand Vitara and the recently launched family car Eeco.
Maruti has plans to increase the production capacity at its Manesar plant near Gurgaon by 2.5 lakh units annually by 2012 for which it will invest 1,700 crore.
