The turbo-petrol engine will be more powerful with 102PS and 140Nm on offer.

It is expected to get the first automatic option for Altroz: a dual-clutch transmission. This is also a first for Tata Motors.

It will likely be launched by late-2020 or early-2021.
The Altroz premium hatchback is the second Tata model to feature its concept-like styling and the first to be based on the new modular ALFA-ARC platform. It’s been on sale since January 2020, but it’s still missing something that was showcased at its pre-production debut: the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine option. However, this recent spy shot of a turbo-badged Altroz gives us reason to believe that it will be arriving soon.
The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine in the Altroz will likely be tuned to produce 102PS and 140Nm as stated at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. A detuned version of the engine is offered in the Nexon sub-4m SUV where it produces 120PS and 170Nm. While it is offered with the choice of a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT in the Nexon, the Altroz turbo is expected to get a dual-clutch automatic. Currently, Tata doesn’t offer any automatic option for the Altroz.
The Altroz is currently offered with a naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 86PS/113Nm and a 1.5-litre diesel engine making 90PS/200Nm, both mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine would be the most powerful option for the Altroz and give the sporty-looking hatchback some more zip. With over 100PS and a DCT auto, the Altroz could be an alternative to the 110PS Volkswagen Polo for driving enthusiasts. The next-gen Hyundai i20 is also expected to offer a powerful engine option - the Venue’s 120PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit.
As spied, the Altroz Turbo features a new blue colour option as well which seems to be the same as the Tectonic Blue offered on the Nexon. It is unlikely to get any updates to the feature list with the more powerful petrol engine as it already comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7.0-inch TFT display in the semi-digital instrument cluster, and cruise control.
The turbo-petrol engine would likely be offered as a single top-spec variant with the choice of manual or automatic transmissions. The Altroz is priced between Rs 5.44 lakh and Rs 9.35 lakh. The DCT option for the turbo-petrol Altroz could take the top-end price over the Rs 9.5 lakh mark. Tata is expected to launch this turbocharged Altroz by 2020-end or early-2021, but there is no official word yet. The Altroz will continue to compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Volkswagen Polo as well as the upcoming Honda Jazz and next-gen Elite i20.
