The JV will develop special performance vehicles

India’s largest automaker, Tata Motors today announced the launch of JT Special Vehicles Pvt. Ltd., a 50:50 alliance with Jayem Automotives Pvt. Ltd. This joint venture (JV) will develop a range of performance-oriented vehicles in a phased manner on its dedicated production facility, which could be set up in Coimbatore. This facility will house all processes including design, precision machining, assembly and testing of vehicles. Both the companies will be investing to create a portfolio of niche products for the passenger car customers.

At the launch event of this JV, Guenter Butschek, CEO and MD, Tata Motors said that this tie-up is part of the company’s transformation journey. The company aims to bring more performance-driven vehicles in its product portfolio, he added.

J Anand, MD, Jayem Automotives Pvt Ltd shared his views about the new partnership. He said that this alliance aims to bring world class performance products to the market in a short time and thus fulfill expectations of passionate customers who are hunting for sportier cars.

It isn’t the first time that Tata Motors has made headlines which revolve around the world of performance cars. Earlier this year the company unveiled its TAMO sub-brand, which will be responsible in designing and developing performance-oriented vehicles. TAMO’s first product, the RACEMO, was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show. It is a two-seater sports coupe which measures under 4-metres in length and develops 190PS/210Nm from a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Tata Motors will surely launch the RACEMO in the coming years. With this JV, could we actually see the RACEMO running our streets in India sooner than expected? Who knows!
