Tata is not the only manufacturer whose getting a beating, auto-makers such as Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are also going through rough patch. Call it a slow growth of Indian economy, or negative sentiments among masses, the whole auto industry is under a fall. Passenger car sales fell by 6.05 percent. At the ending of financial year 2013-14, Society Of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) made a statment, “In the year that ended last month, sales of passenger vehicles fell 6.05% to 2.5 million units, despite an excise duty cut and auto makers introducing 101 models, including 35 completely new models, it said. Overall, the car sales registered a down of 5% for 13-14 fy compared to the previous year.
The company in order to regain its lost ground is prepping up for the launch of its compact sedan Zest and hatchback Bolt. The cars were already unveiled during the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo where it gathered a huge appreciation from visitors and auto experts. Both the cars come equipped with many first in class features such as five inch Harmon touchscreen, new turbocharged Revotron petrol engine, projector headlamps and day-time-running LEDs. Bolt hatch will lock the horns with Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 while the compact sedan Zest is up against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent. As Indians have a thing for diesel engine, the company is also bringing both the cars with diesel powertrain. Bolt and Zest will house Fiat's tried and tested 1.3-litre, Quadrajet diesel engine which is capable enough to generate a power of 89bhp and peak torque of 200Nm. The diesel variant of Zest will also inhouse the first-in-class F-Tronic technology enabled, 5-speed automated manual transmission.
