Tata Motors sales surges in September

Tata Motors has seen a tremendous growth in the sales figures catering all segments in September despite the sluggish car market. Tata Motors has recorded a growth of 22% with 78,786 units sold in the month of September as compared to September, 2010. The domestic sales of passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles for the auto group in the month of September also recorded a growth of 22% with 72, 566 unit sales over last September’s 59,611.

In Passenger Vehicles segment which includes cars like Tata Nano, Tata Sumo, Tata Safari, Tata Aria, Tata Venture, Tata Indica and Tata Indigo; Tata Motors have recorded the overall growth by 6% in sales over 2010 September. While the mini hatchback Tata Nano sales have fallen by almost half with 47% from 2010 September, the compact hatchback, Tata Indica has recorded a highest growth among all the segments with 64% over last September. Tata’s image has been worse affected by recent cases of Tata Nano catching fire. Faulty engine make-up is heard to be the reason behind the growing mishaps.

The compact and the mid-sedan segment recorded the declined growth of 11%. The SUV segment recorded the growth of 60% with 5,308 unit sales. So, Tata Motors is all set to launch itsTata Merlin in the SUV segment this month. Tata Merlin is presently undergoing global technical tests and will take on recently launched Mahindra XUV 500 in the market. Tata Merlin is based on Tata Aria’s tried and tested platform and is sure to have many takers if priced competitively. The luxury car brand Jaguar Land Rover, a subsidiary of Tata Motors has also recorded handsome sales. It offers Jaguar XF, Jaguar XJ and Jaguar XK in India along with Land Rover Discovery 4, Land Rover Freelander 2 and Range Rover series.
