The CNG variants are expected to carry a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the corresponding petrol variants.
The Tata Nexon CNG has been spotted testing again, still under heavy camouflage, and its frequent sightings hint that it is inching closer to its launch. This will be the second CNG model in its segment and the first to come with a turbo-petrol engine option. Tata is yet to reveal any details of the market-ready version of the CNG subcompact SUV, however, this is what we think the Nexon CNG will offer based on the Bharat expo showcase.
Powertrain
First and foremost, the Nexon CNG will come with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which will be the first for any CNG car in India. This engine makes 120 PS and 170 Nm in the petrol-only variants, while the performance will be reduced on the greener alternative fuel.
For transmission, the Nexon CNG will come with a 5-speed manual transmission. However, given that Tata has recently added a 5-speed AMT to the Tiago and Tigor CNG models, we expect the same transmission option to be present in the Nexon CNG as well.

Just like other Tata CNG models, the Nexon CNG will also come with Tata’s twin cylinder technology which will allow it to have a decent amount of boot space, and it will also come with the option of CNG start, where you would be able to start it directly in CNG mode.
Features & Safety
As of now, Tata has not revealed the variants of the Nexon CNG, but if the CNG powertrain is available in the higher variants, then we can expect the Nexon CNG to get features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, single pane sunroof, automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, and a 9-speaker JBL sound system.

In terms of passenger safety, it will get 6 airbags as standard and can also be equipped with features like ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a 360-degree camera.
Launch, Price & Rivals
Tata has not yet revealed the launch date of the Nexon CNG but it will likely enter the market in the coming months. The Tata Nexon is priced from Rs 8.15 lakh to Rs 15.80 lakh (ex-showroom) and we expect the CNG variants to carry a price premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the corresponding petrol-only variants. The AMT variants will likely cost about Rs 50,000 more. Once launched, the Tata Nexon CNG will be a direct rival to the Maruti Brezza CNG variants.
