Despite much probing, the sources could not find details of the petrol engine, however, the diesel variant would be a three-cylinder turbocharged CRDi engine. The displacement is expected to be 800cc and but it would be different from the proposed engine for Tata Nano Diesel. As per initial reports, the Tata Nano Diesel would inherit its engine from Tata Ace. Also, it is a possibility that Tata Dolphin may derive the CRDi engine from Tata Indica.

Furthermore, there are also unconfirmed reports that Tata Motors may develop an entirely new engine for Tata Dolphin but it is also hoped that it would be quite similar to the CRDi diesel engine of Tata Indica. Besides, the Tata’s new tall boy car would derive some external features from that of Skoda Fabia, Hyundai Santro Xing and Maruti Wagon R. Reports are also coming in that it could be entirely different from the Tata Dolphin concept as well and would be much bigger in size than the present Tata Nano.
